Instructional Delivery: Evidence Item #3
Item Name:
Breakout EDU
Description of Item:
These are three of the Breakout EDUs that I have made for my classes, usually used as introductory activities for new units.
Reflection:
In the 2010s, escape rooms became all the rage. The premise is actually pretty cool - a team of players cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to progress and accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time. The goal is often to escape from the site of the game. In 2016, I earned the status as Keystone STAR, and for one of the activities, we learned how to make online versions of escape rooms called Breakout EDUs. The premise: A team of students cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles, and escape the website in a set amount of time. What happened? My kids looked forward to them and really made learning come alive. Instead of watching a documentary or reading a biography, they would compete in a Breakout and learn more from trying to "break out." I love making them, and they love doing them.
