This is an original poetry course that I developed for my semester-long poetry class during my Creative Writing Pedagogy class taken at IUP.

Reflection:
When I started my PhD courses at IUP, I really wanted to actually use things that I learned in my courses in my own courses at Derry. In the summer of 2019, I took a Creative Writing Pedagogy course whose final project was to develop a syllabus from scratch. Coincidentally, I knew that I was going to be teaching an original poetry course that upcoming Fall at Derry, so I asked my professor if I could write the syllabus for my high school class to which she permitted.
The class went over extremely well with my students, as they developed a deeper, stronger understanding of poetry and all of its forms through the reading, analyzing, and writing of their own original poetry. My only hope is that the class continues to grow into something special here at Derry Area.
