Professionalism: Evidence Item #1
Item Name:
Composition & Applied Linguistics, PhD
Description of Item:
This is the page that I had to create for my Composition Theory class that I took at IUP during the Fall of 2019.
Reflection:
For almost a decade, I sat on a dream of mine to earn my PhD. After receiving my Master's in 2011, anytime there was a laptop in front of me, I found myself searching for programs. It got to the point where I would have bookmarks saved and tabs always opened... but never done anything with. And then in December 2018, I applied to IUP and got accepted.
This program has been everything that I've been searching for and more - the studying, the discussions, and the teaching of writing and rhetoric. Instead of just going for the degree and focusing on the end goal, I made it an ongoing goal of mine to take what I was learning and apply it to my high school classes. During the Fall 2019 semester, anything that I learned during that Monday class, I tried to implement it in one of my classes in some way, shape, or form. Not only did it keep me sharp and on top of my studies, but it also was for the betterment of my students and their learning in regards to writing.
